Workshop Details

All classes occur live on Zoom at the times indicated above but will be recorded and available for viewing after the meeting (for those who are not able to attend due to schedule conflicts, work, etc.).

Note: In addition to the time spent in class daily, students are expected to spend approximately 1-2 hours each day composing outside of class.

Prerequisites

No prior composition experience is required, though some background in music theory and performance study on an instrument is preferred. Students will be divided into appropriate class groups based on musical background, experience in composing, experience using a DAW, etc.  If you aren’t sure this is for you, please email us and we will help!

Electives

Students will participate in two elective classes from the following list:

  • Intro to using a DAW

  • Advanced DAW Techniques

  • Orchestration for Digital Instruments

  • Sound Design for Composers

Tech Requirements

All students need to have access to a reasonably fast computer with the following software/gear:

  • Zoom - To participate in class live.

  • DAW - Logic Pro is strongly preferred. You may download a 90-day free trial here.

  • Notation Program - You may use any notation program you are already familiar with (Dorico, Sibelius, Musescore, Noteflight, etc.)

  • High-quality headphones or studio monitors

Classes

All students will participate in Group Composition Class with Faculty Composers Jeff Broadbent and Benjamin Taylor where they will engage in interactive, hands-on workshop-style learning. Students will get a behind-the-scenes look into the creative process of professional composers! No boring prerecorded lectures here!

Final Project

Each student will compose 3-4 minutes of original music for a video game scenario!  Students will have the opportunity to augment their synthesized score with their choice of a solo instrument, recorded by one of our fabulous guest performers!

Final Concert

Final Projects will all be showcased in a virtual concert on Zoom on July 12 at 8:30 pm Eastern. Students will be able to invite friends and family to attend this live Gala Performance!

Listen to our tracks!

Here are the final projects of the students from 2023 (as well as a few of the professors). What a testament to our student’s abilities and their growth over the course of just 2 weeks! We are just so pleased and look forward to seeing how each of them continues in their craft and careers.
